Terra Breads is a Vancouver owned and operated, award-winning Bakery/Café. Our dedicated team, many long-term, produce and sell artisan baking and fresh café products through our four busy Bakery/Cafes in Vancouver, and in grocery and specialty food stores, top restaurants and hotels.

THE ROLE:

Reporting to the President as part of our senior management team you will lead, with active hands-on participation, the Manufacturing & (internal and external) Distribution Teams of exceptional quality products and customer service.  Specifically:

  • Team Leadership – Develop, recruit and motivate high-performance teams
  • Manufacturing & Distribution – Optimize and continuously improve systems, processes and SOP’s; and provide input and assistance to R&D in new product development
  • Quality – Maintain exceptional quality of products and service, meeting or exceeding food safety standards, GMP’s and SQF/HACCP requirements
  • Supply Chain – Manage and develop supply chain relationships and sources
  • Financial – Optimize margins including price and cost analysis, meeting or exceeding KPI’s and operating and capital budgets
  • Senior Management Team – Actively participate in the senior management team leading Terra Breads’ continuing growth and success; and providing input and assistance in business development
  • Facilities & Equipment – Manage facilities and equipment maintenance and cap-ex projects
  • Safety – Protect the safety of our teams and visitors

THE RIGHT FIT:

Ideally you are accustomed to managing a 24/7 manufacturing operation and bring:

  • Education: Degree or diploma in Operations, Business, or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Experience: Preferably 7+ years’ experience in food manufacturing and distribution, including 3+ years at a senior management level, with food safety and lean manufacturing
  • Positive self-initiating leadership with effective interpersonal skills bringing out the best in your teams
  • Business and financial skills and experience
  • An appreciation for fine food and an eye for quality, detail and cleanliness
  • Community participation

WHAT THE JOB IS:

Mixing, shaping and baking of bread products. Specifically:

  • Prepares and follows bread production recipes, techniques and preparation procedures accurately to consistently produce top quality work which meets Terra Breads standards.
  • Practices SQF HACCP, Food Safe and Work Safe policies and procedures.
  • Full-time.

WHO YOU ARE:

You are physically able to:

  • stand and performing baking tasks for up to 5 hours at a time.
  • to lift and stack 20 kg flour bags up to a height of 180 cm.
  • to lift 15 kg tubs of dough to a height of 160 cm.
  • to maneuver 200 kg rolling racks of dough

QUALIFICATIONS:

You have at least 1 year of experience working in a baking environment or you are a graduate of a certified baking program; and you are familiar with all bakery equipment. You work in an efficient and organized manner, with minimal supervision. You like working in a fast-paced environment and have good communication skills. Foodsafe certification is a plus.

THE ROLE:

You will be responsible for preparing high quality café foods according to company recipes and FoodSafe procedures in our café kitchen. As Team Lead, you will be responsible for organizing, training and leading the activities of kitchen team while ensuring overall quality and efficiency of all café food products produced.

THE ROLE:

The Machine Operator for our granola manufacturing, under the direction of the Production Management Team, safely and efficiently operates production machinery, including set-up and basic troubleshooting while following all company policies and procedures including SQF HACCP, Food Safe and WorkSafe policies.  Duties include:

  • Responsible for machine set-up, startup check, general machine operation, changeovers, routine inspection, pre-operational procedures, post-operational procedures and cleaning of equipment
  • Ensure that the food products are safe and meet specifications
  • Communicate quality issues of raw product or finished goods to the appropriate personnel
  • Responsible for the completion of all paperwork including, but not limited to, SQF HACCP, authorization forms, production logs and as well as system productivity and downtime recording
  • Follow and complete the daily production schedule, including changes that may occur during the course of the day
  • Responsible to perform the following product quality checks: specification check, packaging check, produce quality check, seal integrity check, code date check
  • Perform other duties as assigned

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

Ideally you have experience in a production environment, and bring:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1-year Machine Operator experience.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Comfortable using machines and systems.
  • Experience with pre-authorization and post-authorization forms.
  • Proven problem-solving ability with mechanical understanding of machinery.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and written in the English language.
